Disrupting for change

I am sure you have heard the term disrupt. But what does it mean to disrupt an industry? One of the biggest most defining disruptions for me, was when we visited Silicon Valley in San Francisco in 2011 and people were talking about a new app called Uber and how it was going to “disrupt” the taxi industry.

We like all the tech people in the United States was excited about it, however when we shared the excitement with South African colleagues, they said it will never work in South Africa. Low and behold Uber is now a multi-billion-dollar business and there is probably an Uber on my street right now. As leaders we need to look at ways in which we can disrupt industries and make the world better which is why my latest business venture Authority Digital Law Agency. We aim to make access to legal documents cheaper and faster and with the use of videos are able to give our clients the legal advice and guidance they need.

Innovate or die

A great definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. The similar rule applies to business. Many busineses continue printing pamphlets, taking radio and newspaper ads and wonder why their sales and business is declining.

I do believe that there is still a place for traditional marketing like radio and print, however it is important for businesses to incorporate digital marketing into the mix.

You have to innovate your business and your marketing. So for example, if you own a brick and mortar retail business, innovate it by opening an online store and take Google Shopping Ads. Track your ROI and measure the success. If you don’t innovate, your business will suffer.
