We need more Women in Tech

I am always amazed by the number of women in a boardroom. And you can rest assured the numbers drops dramatically in the Technology sector. I was part of the first batch of matriculants in 1991 to study Computer Science as a matric subject. Although my tertiary education involved marketing, my career moved from marketing, to broadcasting and came full circle back to technology.

When I joined Carver Media 13 years ago, I was intrigued by how Google made money and that is when I started studying Google Adwords and Analytics. We need to break the stigma of technology being a male dominated industry, and it starts with our children. They need to know that there is unlimited potential and opportunities in the tech sector.

I love speaking to youth and motivating girls to learn a skill online. Whether it is learning to code or mastering photoshop, I believe that if you become an expert in learning something online, you can master anything. So, let’s put this into perspective for parents wanting to know how much their daughters can earn in the tech industry.

A mobile app developer an earn anything from R55 000 to R200 000,00 per month based on experience and skill. But here’s the thing, there is a huge skills shortage in the world!

Nuturing Leaders

As part of our enterprise development programme, we are constantly approached by young people with brilliant ideas. Many of them are ether forced to study something that they are not happy with, or they are in unfulfilling job.

We believe that our future lies in their hands, and this is why we help to set up, mentor and guide them in the global entrepreneurial world. Business Mentoring and guidance has been a focal point in our business and we are proud to have mentored two successful Forbes Africa Top 30 under 30 winners this year, one in the Business category and the other in Technology.

Their entrepreneurial minds and determination

I believe that the only way in which we can truly change the future, is to ensure that we raise mindful leaders. As a mother myself, I am constantly bombarded with different ideas on how we should raise and educate our children. One thing that I am certain of is that we need to raise decent human beings first.
